Vette(s): 1980 Red T-Top

My 80 only has 15k on it, but the brakes are a continual issue. The previous owner did the brakes and now I have issues. I am going to give up and redo the whole system.

Has anyone ever used the Muskegon Brakes company?  They have a "super kit" that looks pretty good. Stainless Steel sleeved calipers and all.

Wanted to get some input on them as a vendor. TIA for your input.

I have the Muskegon Brake kit on my car. Put it on 4 years ago and have not had a problem at all. it is a great price for such a complete kit. Had no problem getting the core refund either. The only problem I had was getting the brakes fully bled. Forget a Mitey-Vac. I had the best luck doing a gravity bleed. Had to go through the pattern 3 times, but I have the best pedal I have ever had on this car (and I have had it almost 20 years).

        I definitely recommend Muskegon's kit.

Muskegon Brake is a great place. I've had 2 sets of original calipers sleeved and rebuilt rather than exchanging them(personal preference). Reasonal prices and quick turnaround. I THINK there rebuilder is Lone Star Caliper who services a lot of the other vendors, also. I know what you mean about low mileage Vettes having brake problems, thats been my primary maintenence activity! I think I'm caught up with that department now, tho. Pick up a Motive pressure bleeder, can't beat it! I flush a brake system every year, so each Vette gets done every 4 years. Couldn't believe how bad the fluid looked first time I did each one. Lone Star Calipers does indeed supply a lot of the aftermarket with sleeved calipers. I don't know if Muskegon is one of them, either, but, it does appear that Muskegon is a quality set-up.

Ya know, after thinking about it, you're in a good position to go with O-ring calipers. You say the previous owner replaced the calipers, then they're probably stainless steel sleeved. Why not rebuild what you have using VBPs O-ring rebuild kits? Seems to be what everyone recommends these days for Vettes that aren't driven a lot. Now that I have all SS sleeved on mine next leak that comes along will motivate me to go in that direction. Unfortunately, Muskegon doesn't handle O-ring calipers or kits. But I'd look into it.  Mike

Lone Star originated the o-ring seal kits. I'd agree with going the o-ring way if the calipers have already been sleeved.
