To anyone with even an idea,

77vette when braking pulls to right.  All of a sudden the car goes left.  Left wheel heats up and smokes.  Remove wheel to find caliper is stuck on.  When I turn the brake line with a wrench it releases only to seize up again.  I replaced the caliper, the rotor ( which turned black from heat ) and replaced all front pads. This problem persists. I would appreciate any ideas for a solution.

                   Thank You,

                          Russell

Replace the hose. Good idea to replace them all at this point. Inside gets cruddy.   Mike

1) You have a restriction in the rubber hose(inside).
2) Your 'Vette don't wanna go right!

Most likely cause for this problem is a collapsed rubber hose, from the frame to the caliper. The hose could look fine from the outside, but it could have a sliver/split on the inside that will hold fluid pressure on the caliper after you release the brake pedal. This would also explain why it will pull to the right at first (because of the restriction in the left hose), and then to the left(because the caliper is not able to release).

If you find that this is indeed the problem, it would be best to replace all of the brake hoses, to be safe. They're not that expensive(around $40 set), and a lot cheaper than pullin your 'Vette out of the middle of a tree! (or worse)

might want to think about braided hoses if you are going to do all four.

I was told recently by a mechanic that specializes in vettes ( & has a really nice 78 Silver Anniversary that he has spent big bucks on),that he advises against the braided hoses. And this was right after I had just got them.Says they actually make the brakes too stiff, harsh,& a bit TOO responsive.  I've never used them myself,on any of my vehicles.I wonder if theyd fit my 78 Olds Cutlass instead?  My 79's brakes are greatly improved now anyway, with addition of new 'O'-ring style.stainless calipers from VBP,along with Hawk HPS pads,& 4 new stock style Powerslot rotors.Without an actual measurement,it feels like my braking is at least 50% better C3RVETTE38588.4433912037

I have em on mine, they don't seem harsh too respondsive, wish they were more respondsive, guess it depends on a persons taste.

I may try it anyway, soon. But then I have to go through all the bleeding, etc again. My 79 was pulling hard right when I braked hard,so it was time to go thru everything this last time

       Many Thanks !

It was the brake hose.  I enjoyed a drive today with excellant braking.  I like the projects that don't effect the drive, this fix put me right back at the wheel.

                      Thanks Again Guys,

                            Russell
