I got the calipers out and disassembled.  I'm still working on drilling out the rivets to get the rotors out and I'll have someone measure the runout on them.  If they don't check out ok, I won't even turn them, I'll just replace them.  Just by the feel, there's something wrong so I'm already shopping for new rotors.

In general, the calipers (and everything inside) looked ok.  I guess the PO greased the o-rings because I could see build up around them, in the bores where they sat for a while and at the bottom of the sleeves.  That might have cause them to stick here and there.

The SS sleeves are perfect.

The rear pistons are also in "new" condition, but the front ones have a lot more dirt on them (only the outside; where it's pressing the pads); in between dark stuff and rust.  I'll know for sure after I clean them.

The springs looks good, but for 1.50$ each; I'm replacing them.

Here's what I'm planning to order:
-piston springs
-front & rear caliper seal kit (piston o-rings, seals & those tiny o-rings...)
-brake hose washer
-front drive brake line (I stripped the fitting real bad...)

The questions :

-what size socket do I need to tap the seals in.  The ss sleeves are about 1 1/2" (rear) and almost 2" (front).  Or is there a tool made for this?

-do I have to replace the caliper bolts? (they looked good but they have a heck of a torque spec.  Haven't read the book yet, but I had to put all my weight on it to get them loose...)

-what about the caliper to bracket bolts? (they looked good too)

-when putting them back, those bolts needs any special treatment like thread-lock ?

-besides the rotors runout, I've read a few things about spindles & bearing on other threads; ... if I only check the rotors while off of the car for now, I'm I missing something important?

-the 4 lines I took out (2 rubber & and 2 ss) didn't look bad.  What's the word; replace or keep?

-last but not least; I'm not doing all this to get them back in as if I didn't do anything, so the question is : which color do I paint them? (I have rally wheels, so it doesn't really matter...)

Hey! I was just doing my homework on this. I tore down my front and rear suspension today and the calipers were looking pretty ugly. In my Haynes manual they say to "manipulate the new seals into position with fingers only." They do cite a tool J 22629 OR j 22639 to help intalling the piston, you'll have to ask someone smarter than me about those. Let me know how this goes for you, as I will be doing this shortly myself.
