Are the springs properly seated in the pockets?

I believe the new springs lift it up a little. From what I've heard here, they'll settle down a bit after a few hundred miles of driving.
Keep us posted.

The shorter springs I am thinking of are thicker stock with less turns and are meant to maintain the stock ride height. There may be a spring to lower the front, but I haven't seen one...

You can just cut off some spring.  Remove the spring, and use a cut off wheel.  Remove a little at a time, as you cannot add any back on if it gets too low.  It will get a little stiffer as you cut more off, but not bad unless you cut off quite a bit.

please just do not do the redneck thing and use a torch.  cut off wheel only.  heat will ruin the springs.
