As the subject says....

I drilled out the rivets on one of the rear rotors.  Soaked it with PB blaster and still can't get it out.  Am I missing something ?  If I pull any harder, I will probably pull the car off of the stands...

On the same subject; since all my brake hardware is out; what is the best way to stop the front rotors from spinning while I drill the rivets out (without damaging the rotor of course...).

Double check that the rivits are  completely drilled out...then... Hammer time... let it soak overnight if need be... sometimes the rotor rusts a little to the spindle.  Sooo a little persuasion with a hammer tends to do the trick(tap all around the "drum" area).. oh, and make sure your parking brake isnt on.  :)

Yep!  I did thing about the parking brake before asking the question!LOL
I'm not sure what you mean by the drum area.Confused

Good idea on the length of wood, I think it will do the trick.  I'll try sometimes this week.

I looked at it again and even if the rivets heads are off, they might still be a little over.  I'll try to drill a little more with a smaller bit.

You may have to back off your parking brake adjustment some.  Sometimes a lip develops on the inner edge of the rotor were the P/B shoes  dont ware causing the rotor to hang up, but I think Jim's right, its probably ....." Hammer Time!!" Cool

take a punch and knock rivet right out the back, two stout screwdrivers in the rotor vains oppisite each  other and wiggle them as you pull, should come off ok.Thumbs%20Up Joanne2007-07-31 05:54:46

Don't forget ,Patience, is a virtue, tap tap ,wiggle wiggle, spray spray, theyre either hung up on the brake shoes,or hung up on the axle where it sticks through the rotor, and like Joanne said knock the rivets out the back

I punched them and the punch is only making holes in the rivets.  Maybe I wasn't convincing enough.  I'll try again tomorrow after I triple-check the parking brake; it's really dusty/greasy in there; I might just spray the whole thing (parking brake hardware) and like you said; wiggle; spray; pull; repeat; patience....Approve

i used a squared ended punch just a bit smaller than rivets.came right out 1/2 taps. very easy. if your going in with a tapered punch your spreading them and just tightening them up.i think even a bolt would do it as a punch.
