Topic: Check the brakes!
in Forum: C3 Engines, Driveline and Handling
Found out yesterday that my right rear caliper had air in it, so the dual brake system was using too much of the front brakes and not enough of the rear, hence the brake light was on.
No wonder the pedal was low and felt spongy.
All fixed now.

What a difference!

Fortunately, I didn't need to make any panic stops.

Dave,
I know the feeling. When I got my car it had been sitting for over 8 yrs. I knew that because the new tires still had the nobbies and the DOT manufacture date was 95. It helped too that it was my uncles car and he gave it to me because he knew I would rebuild it and he said I was his best nephew. Well, i'm his only nephew! Lucky me!
The brakes were a mess. The inside of the rims and tires had brake fluid all over them. The fluid looked like motor oil when I blew out the system. 3 of the 4 calipers had leaky o-rings, the master cylinder was pitted, and the rear parking brake shoes were wore out. Turns out some dumb blonde he dated drove the thing with the E-Brake on.
Rebuilt all the calipers, replace one caliper that was just nasty, hoses to the calipers, rear brake line, new e-brake kit and master cylinder. Brake peddle feels perfect.
If you let em sit, gotta check the brakes before that first spring cruize
