Hope this post is in the right category...atleast I didn't put in under "SNOW" If you guys don't know by now, you'll soon find out that I don't know didley squat about anything mechanical. Anyways, as I told you earlier, I bought this car last fall....450 miles on it since the off-frame restoration. It now has almost 1100 miles on it and I decided to get the oil changed today. Guess what....there's wasn't a lift in town that the car would go up on. Ended up having to pull it over an open pit to change the oil.
What do I need to have done to get the car rasied enough to atleast be able to get on a lift to change the oil? When I bought the car I was told that it had competition suspension (gas shocks all around, competition springs, etc.) I love the way the car handles and it has incredible traction but it just sits toooo low. God forbid that I find myself in a parking lot with speed bumps.
You guys have a GREAT site here and I have really enjoyed viewing all the post for the past couple of weeks. "Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional" is evident in some of the post and I LOVE it. Thanks in advance for your help.
If you like the way it rides and handles, raising the car will most likely affect that. There's nothing wrong with the pit for an oil change.
The rear can be raised by using a shorter (yup, shorter) bolt at the trailing arm end. The front will most likely require a new set of springs. In doing that, you may discover your shocks are too short.

Well.....you could just jack that puppy up yourself and change the oil and filter. It's easy!!

I have run into that also with customers cars, not only Vetts.
I lay down four 2x10s about 2 foot long in front of the tires and drive up on them. I tapered the one end at 45 degrees. That does the trick for me, your garage man should do the same for you.
Hope that helps,
Denny

We work on all year model 'Vettes at my place, and I've never seen one that wouldn't go on a regular two-post lift. We do have to lay down the 2x12s to drive one on the drive-on lifts, sometimes.
I have a system for jacking my '74 up here at home. My normal 3ton floor jack will not go under the front, due to the air dam(spoiler). I have some of the small(cheap-o) floor jacks that I put under the frame on the sides, and jack it up untill I can get my real jack under the front. It's a pain, yeah, but it's better than screwing up the fenders, or the front air dam.

It doesn't look that low in the sig picture. I jack mine up using the same method that Joel does with the "cheapies" and I'm a woman.
It's not that hard, it just requires a little more work.
