Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
|QUOTE|2vetteken said: I tried bleeding the brakes per the manual and went to the proportioning valve to bleed the opposite line and the wife said the light flickered and stayed on. Is it that sensitive? I will try again this weekend. |headscratch||/QUOTE|

I don't know if it is that sensitive or not. I've never done the repair. By what the manual says, don't open the valve very much. press steady on the brake pedal, and close it as soon as the light goes off. I presume that means immediately.

Good luck!! |thumb|

Hi
I remember something like a resetting procedure for the proportioning valve.
When the valve plunger is moved off center, the light will be turned on and it might not reset automatically.
I seem to remember that resetting it is by just hitting the brake pedal very hard and releasing it again. Will try to find this info again as I'm not so sure about it.
Just try it for the time being.
Good luck. Gunther

You never mentioned if you finally got the light to go away. The book tells you,and I know from personal experience, and another member has already mentioned this. Push down on the brake pedal as fast as you can, then let me come back up. This will reposition the proportioning valve and cause the light to go off.

I have the same problem and I haven't been able to get the light to go out (brakes have been fine for years). Before I spend the cash for a new valve, did you ever get yours to go out???

Another question that wasn't mentioned. Are you sure that it's not your parking brake that is causing the light to come on. If this switch is made, then the light would stay on. The "normal" brakes would work fine. |cool|

In my case, I'm 100% sure the E-brake isn't the cause(I disconnected the wiring). Any other ideas as to who to tell if the proportioning valve is bad?
