I blew apart my column over Christmas. The so called "rebuilt" column was all loose and sloppy at the tilt joint. I figured they assembled it incorrectly. They skipped tightening the 4 torx bit bolts that are wayyyyy down in there. Apparently this is a common failure area and if 1 bolt falls out it will jam up that plastic pivot sphere and lock your steering = crash go boom. So I blue locktight'ed em back in place.
Here are two excellent step by step tear down posts. Lots of good pics. Neither column is an exact match to ours but everything you need to know to do a GM tilt column is covered:
