I hear that replacing the steel leaf spring with a fiberglass spring drastically smooths the ride. Has anyone done this and what was the result? Also, they come with different # ratings. I assume the higher the # the stiffer the ride. Any recommendations on the #.

Hi, I replaced mine with a 300# spring an it sure rides better. I have a 70 convertible. I think you would like it.
I was told by the owner of Corvette Center here in Syracuse that fiberglass leaf springs would make the ride better and smoother. He put them on his 2 vettes. Mine aren't bad so I'm not ready to replace them yet.

Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.
I have the VBP 330# spring and love the ride. Just remember to replace the shocks at the same time so that you have the same dampening rate as the spring, other wise you will feel little benefit. I put KYB GR2 shocks on and couldn't be happier.

I have a TRW fiberglass rear spring (315#)and it works great. The only thing was that it caused the rear end to be too high, about 30" or so from top of the wheel opening to the ground. I had to change the spring mount bolts to 8" to be able to adjust it down to 28 1/2". Other than that, no problems.
By the way, forgot to mention that I also put on AC Delco Performer Gas Shocks when I changed the spring.

REPLACING THE SHOCKS along with the springs is extreeeeeemely important...
============ ========== =========== =========
I only replaced the spring with a 330 pound unit on my 72 and it rode like a buckboard...very stiff..and bouncy
A few months later I installed a set of KYB's (they are grey not white..have no idea of the number) and the ride
improved about 700000 percent...night and day improvement
Did the same thing with my 76 BUT I knew enough at that point to change both the spring and the shocks at the same time... BTW...it rides great also...

I put the VBP street and slalom kit on my '77 this summer. It included a 360# composite rear spring. My ride is so much better and the weight difference of the springs is pretty impressive. I won't be going back to a steel spring anytime soon!!
