I just had my '69 in for a brake repair and the technician told me I had flat spots on the tires. THey are Firestone Indy 500's and are less than 3 years old with less than 4000 miles on them. He speculated it was from letting the car sit too long without moving it. Anyone experienced this and what are the remedies and ways to prevent it from getting worse?
Thanks,
Jim

Are the tires made from nylon cord? While a very strong and excellent material, nylon will flat spot from sitting but after a few miles of driving and warming up it should stop. That's why polyester is generally used in tire construction.
I've heard of tires flat spotting from sitting, but all tires sit. I say drive the car and let the tires warm up and see if the problem goes away. Maybe from sitting for long periods it might take longer for it to disappear.

I suspect the problem is from sitting too long on a concrete garage floor, if your house was built in the late70's through today the concrete companies use salt, i.e., calcium chloride to activate the concrete to make it set up quicker. Too much talk, so if your car sits all winter, and doesn't get at least a little street driving, like once a month, then it's that darn salt eating the rubber. I'm pretty sure this is your dilema, as here in WI., a lotta guys park there cars tires on plywood-Hope this helps-Flandy
