Micki..Have you ever had them done? Do you remember the mileage of the car?If you decide to replace the bushings or rebuild the front end a kit with Polyurethane complete will run about $250.00, and if you know a doctor in your area maybe  you can get a discount?? Thats upper and lower A-Arm bushings, ball jounts both Tie rod end, idler  Arm new and stablizer link kit.Then there is labor??The standard rubber will be cheaper..Terryspielman52006-10-18 14:36:17

This may sound silly, but, when the car is lubed, do you take it to a quick lube place? Most of those places do not unload the lower ball joints when they grease them, because they use a pit and not a lift. The grease does not get to where it should to do any good.

Its not silly Denny..Also they don't lube the uppers because they cant reach them? You may have to take the front wheels off to properly lube them..Ermm spielman52006-10-18 15:34:03

I would also check the end links to your front sway bar.  I had an F150 that broke an end link and it would make a pop when I turned the wheel like you described.  It looked like it was still on but the top portion broke off so it would pop in and out of place when I turned the wheel.  Don't really remember if it had a vibration, but the handling characteristics of a truck compared to a vette are obviously a little different.

No, I don't take it to that Quick Oil & Lube joint.  I've taken it to a couple of different Chevy dealers to grease if for me.  I take it to those places because they have a lift.  Censored Maybe they didn't do it and just charged me for nothin. Angry  Rats, where's Dr. Joel when you need him??  All bark and no bite! LOL
 
Terry, do you have urothane bushings on yours?  I saw some in a catalog that have a lube hole for easy access for greasing and they are urothane bushings.  Does anyone have those??  Just don't know to go with normal rubber bushings or the urothane that last longer with the lube hole. Confused

Definitely worth the time and $$$ to put the urethane kit in.  It made a HUGE dif in the handling of the '80.  Get the complete rebuild kit and the sway bar bushings.  71Shark and I did it in a long afternoon (OK, from 2pm to 11pm), but hey, it was old and nasty and my barn floor is ground asphalt so if you drop something it takes a magnet and luck to find it.  In his new shop with the lift, it would probably take 4hrs give or take.

If that mean ole' Dr. J won't do it for you, I guess we could if you wanted to drive all the way north of OKC.  Remember though, Dr. J is a paid professional and $100 or so in gas closer.  Ya might want to beg just a little moreLOLLOLLOL

Seriously though, it is well worth the time & $$$ to go urethane.  I didn't believe it until we did it.
