1970 Vert. I had the front up on ramps to lube all the susp. and stearing zerks, and as I was bringing it down, I thought it would be a good time to check the front end for play....like they do at inspection time. (Inspection comming up in June) anyhow, near as I could tell the drivers side is nice and snug....the passenger side..while trying to push the tire in/out. I could just feel a little give....hoping maybe just the front wheel bearing is a little loose, as I would think this is a easy fix, but, how do you tighten the bearing? never done it before and I am sure you dont want it TOO TIGHT, ...any hints or help would be much apreciated!! Thanks

Pull the cap off the rotor and you will see a castle nut being held in place with a cotter pin. Remove the cotter pin and the nut will spin. Now would be a good time to clean and grease the barrings. You will need to unbolt the caliper and remove the pads. Take the nut off and a washer and the front barring will come off. Put the nut back on a couple of threads and pull the rotor off and the rear barring and seal will stay on the spindle. Remove the nut, clean the barrings and apply new grease. Install the rear barring in the rotor and replace the seal with a new one. Place the roto back on the spindle and install the front barring, washer, and nut. Tighten the nut while slowly spinning the roto until you feel the roto getting tight. Back up the nut to the last slot and cotter pin hole and replace the cotter pin. Install the dust cap, caliper and brake pads and you will be good to go. Redwingvette 2008-04-06 19:31:22

Geez Brian, I think you could do it with your eyes closed.
Nice instructions. Even I could follow along.
I have a can of wheel bearing grease from when I used to maintain my '78 van. I bet it's still good.
