Hey everyone,
We broke our key in our ignition lock... so we tore it all out, and installed the new lock... however, the key doesn't want to come out now. It stays in the ON and OFF position, but doesn't go down, or to the ACC setting, and so the key is just sitting in there.
We followed the directions from the books, and also on corvettefaq.com, but there's nothing about this. The lock is a GM part, and it's exactly the same as the old one.
BTW: 1974, with Tilt/Telesc...

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.

Inside of the steering column, is a little piece of plastic and brass, that locks the key in the ignition for when it is turned on. When you replaced the switch, it might have gotten broken, bent, or misadjusted. I'm not positive about this, but it might be your problem. This too, is a real pita to work on. I think that Chevrolet hired all of the engineers in the country that knew how to build things that would be hard to work on. They get an A+ for that.
