Thanks, guys.  I know not to mix the different types of brake fluid.  That really wasn't my question, but thanks anyway.

So, again, would I need the clips pictured above to remove the caliper assembly to replace the rotors?  And, do the rotors just slip off once the caliper assembly is removed, or is there a nut that needs to be removed?

Again, thanks!

You can remove the calipers with the pads still in them. I use a couple of sockets, stuck between the two pads, to hold them against the caliper.
Once you have the caliper off, the rear rotors will come off only if the rivits have already been drilled out. Otherwise. you will need to drill them yourself to get the rotor off. On the front, you will need to remove the "dust cap" from the center of the hub. There is a large nut there that holds the rotor/hub assy. to the spindle. There is a cotter pin that secures the nut that will need to be removed first. The front rotor/hub assy will then come off. In order to replace the front rotor with a different one, the rivits will have to be drilled out on them, also.

Thanks Joel!

Somehow I knew it wasn't going to be simple, like it was on the Yukon.  Seems nothing ever is when I start looking at things that need to be done.

Again, thanks!

For those who are interested in the nifty little clips, you can get them from Rik's Vette parts (www.riksvet.com) or Mid America.  They make the job a lot easier.  I don't know if any of the normal auto parts shops carry these.

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!

The rivits are not that hard to drill out.  Just be carefull that you don't get the backside of the rivits into the parking brakes.

I recomment flushing the brake fluid completely every 2 years at a minimum.  I do my cars that often.  The Vette gets it every year.

Brake fluid is hydroscopic.  It absorbs water.  The water creates rust and corrosion.  This is why brake fluid starts to turn color, it's the rust in the fluid.  Getting this out of the system greatly helps prolong the life of the hydraulic system, master cylinder, calipers, flex lines, steel lines.

I use an old baster and suck all the fluid out of the master cylinder, fill it with fresh, and bleed the wheels until I have clear clean fluid at every bleeder.

It will make you smile in the long run.
