Don't know if this is the right forum for this question, but I figured this is related to tire removal.
What's a good aftermarket jack to use, that will fit my jack compartment ?

A good jack, AND fit in the compartment??? That's axin a bit much... 
While the original design of the factory jacks was ok, they ain't too safe after sitting in the storage well for 30 years or so...yeah, it'll raise the car up, if it's on level ground, but will it stay up?
The replacement jacks I've seen are pretty flimsy, but so were the originals.
I'd suggest one out of another GM car/truck...like maybe a Suburban. They are screw type jacks, which means you may have to have some way to spin it up, and the original handles are quite long, but may fit in the back of the rear compartment.
My opinion is to stay away from the scissor type jack(original style)...just too scary for me.
I use a small hydraulic "trolly" jack...it fits in the rear of the compartment pretty easily, and doesn't take up too much room on trips....

I've got one of the one pump to contact floor jacks that is pretty small, but it won't fit in the hole, and the handle, even though it breaks down, is too long for the scoop backs. It is better with the 78-82's that you can put in the back of the bubble area.
I will tell you that last year, when I threw the rear u-joint, 71Shark was able to get the screw jack to work for us to get her high enough to see what the problem was, but I would be concerned about crawling under the car with just that jack.
Perhaps a jack stand could accompany the jack in the hole for safety?

If you want to stick with the scissor jack, Paul is aboslutely right with the Volunteer Vette jack at $55 when compared to most other after market vendors selling for $170 or so. Just got mine a couple of days ago and am happy with it. AAA is great but here in rural Nevada we don't always have cell phone connectivity so we have to be self reliant to a point, and cheaper is not always a bad thing. Just need to get a tire on to get to the next town. However, I absolutely will never get under the car while supported by one of these jacks.

I've used a hydrualic bottle jack in the past (there was one in the well when I bought "The Toy"). For changing a tire it was fine but I also wouldn't trust it enough to crawl under the car. A pair of jack stands would be a good suggestion for trippin', but for just around town or local cruises I'd probably leave 'em at home.
