Has anyone put large rims on a c3 ?
id like to put 17" or 18" rims on my '69, but dont know what offset ill need.
im running 255/60/15 now...
id like to go with 275 on the rear and 255 on front.
the stock 15x8 rims make the tires too spongy in corners.

Benjamin,
Check out these two sites. They help calculating the tire size differences.

Anything, but Stock and more mods to come!
SSBC Force 10 Brakes, 3.73, TH350, 355 CID, Rack and Pinion, Vette Brakes suspension front and rear.
18's rear and 17's front. Firestone S03 Pole positions. Look for an article that I wrote that will be out in Corvette Enthusiast in the next couple of months. Hopefully I answered a lot of these questions. It took me a long time to figure out everything to get a certain look and fit.

Custom front clip, I didnt do this...
I bought it from the guy that did.. I had constant problems on my last 69 vette with the damn pop-up lights..
when I saw the custom front end... I had to have it.

I can't post the article because they now own the rights to it. I would recommend finding the article. The pub. should be available at any bookstore.
What I can tell you is there is about 15 factors that go into getting the right wheel and tire combination. More info then I can take time to put on here.
It all depends on what type of look you are going for. The tire brand plays a big factor in that not all 255 40r18's are the same dimensions between tire mfg.
I was lucky that I was able to get some Mfg. to help me do this story by providing various tire sizes and some new software and tools that have just been invented.
It was not easy thing to just do, because wanted a certain look. I also didn't want Torq Thrusts or the american racing look. Blah........ way over done. Not that they don't look bitchn', but good lord lets face it there has to be other wheels out there that look good on these cars.
I also believe that most C3 owners go with a tried and true formula that has passed its way down from owner to owner because someone else figured it out, it looks decent and I can just take their info and apply it to my own.
I'll give you the combo that I have, but I would suggest you find the story and read it to understand how I came to my conclusion for sizes, fit and finish.
Firestone S-03’s on the Emotion style wheels. The 255/40ZR18’s were mounted on a 9” wide rim with a 4.5” backspace. The 235/45ZR17’s were mounted on an 8” wide rim with a 4.5” backspace.
My 72 runs offset trailing arms, vette brakes front mono leaf suspension, and a vette brakes rear fiberglass spring and sway bar.
All of these items play a key role it fitment and sizing. I also did a bunch of fitments for the article on a all stock 75.
