anips ,I agree with you on both the pre-load and the alignment  ,I have never done the preload b-4,I have done the small bolt and jamb nut thing ,sorry bout the confusion

Sorry about what Ron? I get confused walking from one room to another, I believe if you have to adjust the box because of slop that replacement is just around the corner, worn bearings,worm gear, balls seals,etc caused by time and or lack of lubracation or whatever that a full adjustment would be best to get it as close as possible to get a little extra enjoyable miles out of it before replacement.
