I changed out my Calipers only to find that my master cylinder was not working. It sticks and will not allow full pedal travel. I am looking at a rebuild by bendix. My question is does it make a difference as to what brand of master cylinder I use? Originally there were two, the delco-moraine and the bendix. I do not know for sure how to tell which one I have, I guess a simple comparision at the store will work. Any suggestions?

There should be casting on the cyl. that ids the mfg., ie; "Delco" or "Bendix". Not sure if all of the Bendix units were so marked, but all of the Delco cyls I've seen were. There should be a Delco "split circle" logo cast on the engine side of the cyl., along with the casting # of the cyl. I believe the Bendix cyls had "Bendix" cast on them, but not 100% sure on those.
Of course, this assumes the cyl. hasn't been swapped out in the past. Even so, there should still be a id cast on it somewhere. Just make sure you get one for the system you have; power or non-power brakes, as they are different. Look at the end of the cyl. that the pushrod from the pedal fits into--there are deep pistons and shallow pistons, and they both require a matching pushrod. If you have a deep piston set-up, you won't be able to bolt a shallow type on, and if you have a shallow, and bolt a deep one on, the pedal will go to the floor.(been there, done that
I'm sure either mfg. will be OK.

Street Shark,
I recently replaced the car's original M.C. which was a 1 1/8" Moraine. It had part# 5460348 on the engine side & a date plate on the fender side.
I picked up a rebuilt Bendix M.C. from Partsamerica.com (Advanced Auto) to act as a "stand in" until I send the original m.c. out for a rebuild.
I have had no problems so far, here is the link: http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?mfrcode=BEN&a mp;mfrpartnumber=R11372&parttype=230&ptset=A
Good luck,
Anthony

I don't believe it matters which is installed, as long as the application is correct. GM often used more than one supplier for such parts, often as a hedge against strikes by one supplier to keep the flow of parts from being interrupted. They did that when contracting with Carter as a supplier of Quadrajets in case the Rochester Division of GM underwent a strike.

Thanks, I got the bendix rebuid, it has the same part number cast in the side of the cylinder. I guess I have some work to do now.
