i'm expecting brake rotors f/r.new calipersand proportioning valve tomorrow,fromvb&p.
aquestion?,can i change rotor on car with out pulling hubs?

If they are not the originals ,and not still rivited on you can LOL,even if the front ones are still rivited on you can drill the rivits out ,on the car,if your going to do that much work with the brakes ,I'd pull off the hubs and clean and repack the bearings and replace the seals,do it now or do it later its up to you.as long as you've got new calipers ,change the hoses too,and flush out the old brake fluid b-4 ya hook the new calipers up,My $.02

I'm not an authority on this but I've heard the rotors were riveted on to maintain a perfect balance and that some rotors have issues with vibration when remounted.A lot of vettes never get thier rotors turned because of this Dead and thats not good. The solution would be to mark them so they line back up on the same stud pattern and same wheel.

Nope, don't have to replace the rivets. They must have done the original balance of the hub and rotor together and used the rivets to keep it that way.aceinthehole2007-05-13 12:21:18

When you put your new rotors on snug them up & check the run out , you want as close to 0 as possible. Keep taking to rotor off & changing bolt pattern positions until you get the least run out better than .003" is good. To much & you get air in the breaks...BIG PROBLEM ON OLDER VETS.

just got to get hubby to fit them,yeah

    Thumbs%20Up  Alright !  Thumbs%20Up New rotors too ? You'll love the difference. I watched the wife test out her new brakes, almost broke my heart. I had just gotten the car road worthy and went to pick it up from having new exhaust installed. The wife (Melissa) wanted to drive her own car home ( what's up with that ?) so I suggested we take an old orchard road and stay out of traffic. It's very straight and goes on for 10 mi. She was having a great time punching it up to 100 mph then backing off to wait for me ( I was in my Nissan pickup ) as she accelerated up a long slope doing 90 + I noticed a small car approaching from the right on the horizon towards our road, at the speed she was traveling something told me it was all over, and sure enough the car didn't even stop before coming on to our road. The brake lights went on and she miraculously almost came to a stop as the little car appeared on left side of her car and continued on it's way. I about died right there. I don't believe many other cars could have made that stop. Truely amazing. Now that's performance. None of the other vettes stop like that so I'm redoing thier brakes with o'ring calipers and stainless steel hoses pronto.

sounds good i got the o-ring/stainless calipers.mainly they where out right buy,no cores,as it would'nt be worth it to ship back to the us. Joanne2007-05-14 13:46:27

Whatever it cost, it was money well spent,( and you can bet your life on that ) Good choice on the calipers,too.
