My 75 vette needs to have the rear struts replaced along with the rear differential side yokes. Is this a job that can be tackled in my garage or do I need to take the car to a professional for this work. Just what is involved. Thanks

The diff. will need to be removed from the car to do the side yokes. This requires quite a bit of manual labor. It will take a good weekend to do it, if you have the parts on hand, and you don't spend too much time cleaning!
The strut rods can be changed with the rear of the car up off the ground, without too much trouble. Couple of hours, if you take your time!

The thing ya have to sweat is if the yokes have been wearing against the pin for the spyder gears. My rear tires were tilted in at the top, which is an indication of wear in the yokes. The difficulty is how much the yokes have "mushroomed" on the ends in the diff. I had to take a die grinder to mine in order to get them out of the side gears. This of course puts all sorts of metal in the rest of the rear. I wound up doing the whole deal, new bearings, clutches and the lot. Takin' it in and out ain't no smile inducing job either. The exhaust system is in the way, so it's gotta go also. Then there is the matter of the preload springs and plates to get in and out of the rear, not a fun job. The amount of money I spent and time invested, I just should have got an exchange diff. BTW, this is a common problem with the diff.
