Vette(s): I own a 1974 L48 white/red automatic, a 1976 daily driver L82 4 speed and a 1979 L48 automatic.
I have 225/60 R15s on the front and 275/60 r15s on the back of my 76 with 15x8 aluminum rims and have no problems with this setup.

Thanks to all for the replies. The 255 60 R15 size up front is not the issue. The 255's with the alloy wheels were THE option of choice in 1981. I may not have stated my issue correctly. My issue was the 275's for the rear.
So, Canadian Vette, you have the 275's on the rear with the standard alloy rims with no offset?
The rear of my 1981 seems to sit high to begin with - lots of vertical clearance - and I have found that the BFG 275's are exactly 1" diameter larger than the 255's. so they may fill the wheel opening a bit better. My thought was to put the tires on first - then lower the suspension to suit.
