almost start to feel embrassed with again another question but anyway.. here it is:
i noticed some play in the gearbox when turning the steeringwheel left/right.

i had the box "rebuild " with such a standard kit... seals ,gasket etc.. i just had it put back together and "adjusted" just by feeling but since that was about year ago i forgot already most of it.
but does this kind of play mean the gears are worn or is it a matter of adjustment although when thinking about adjusting the lash adjuster (B) screw or the adjuster plug (A) . i get the idea that wouldn't solve the kind of play i have ( as ifd the gears don't fit in eachother enough)
to my idea the adjustment options are just to "squeeze" both shafts a bit tighter in the box to make the steeringwheel turn easier or more difficult?

Depends what sort of play there is but the adjustment at point "B" will take some of the play out. If the gear sector the pitman arm is connected to is worn or the worm drive is worn, you will have to replace them.

A small amount of play is OK. You don't want it too tight, as that will wear the sector out quickly. There is another thread here on the adjustment, where I posted the procedure. I'll look for it....

thanks, will see if i can get some of the play out.... since to my idea at the moment the play is to much
Hey Art, Your rag joint looks good. So try adjusting you screw to the left at 1/4 turns and be careful not to adjust it too much or you might screw up your bearings. I am having my fourth steering box installed Monday all in three weeks. I bought the first three from Ecklers. That sucker cost $459.00. I just received my fourth one direct from the rebuilder in Lakeland, Fl. It's a long story. I started this because I wanted to get the play out about a $1000.00 bucks ago. Good luck, and don't let my story influence you. It happens, Gene
