In side under the dash. I here its a real pain. I've seen another post on here about it. If you do a search you will probably find it.

It is a major pain but doable. You need a half inch deep socket (I think) and at least one long extension with a flex knuckle on the end. It helps to take out the drivers seat because you will be spending alot of time lying on your back working upside down. The nuts unfortunately are lock nuts and they are quite difficult to unscrew all the way to the last thread. Putting them back on is just as hard. I thought the upper right one was going to kill me (really, I have a heart condition). I think I also had to take out the brake pedal light switch out for better access.
Like I said, a real pain in the keester but my repainted one looks like new!

Four bolts up underneath the dash behind the pedals. Three of the four are no real problem the fourth is a sob I finally got out with good swivel and extension.
YellowLT1 and captn bill are right. when I replaced my booster, I used a deep socket, thought it was 9/16ths though, a swivel and a 20" extension. I also replaced the nylon locking nuts with a flat washer, locking washer and a nut. if you do the same, check the studs on the booster. didn't realize the studs had metric threads, 15mm(?), until after I bought the replacements and went to install the booster.
good luck, it's an ugly job at best.

Off to the parts store to get the deep 9/16 socket. Last night I took out the seat and took off the steering wheel. I located 2 of the bolts right away. I have 5 days off of work to get this done. Hoping it will be done today if my back can take it.
What goes through engineers minds sometimes? Are they sadistic in their thinking, boy this will really P.O. someone when they try to replace it!!!!

The design boys just worry about building it, not fixing it. And it shows in most cars. Combine that with the lack of space in a C3, and there you go.

I just got doing the same replacement. After removing the driver seat, the steering-wheel, the lower Vent ducting, and peeling back the carpeting, I could lay on my back with my head right down by the brake pedal.
I was able to get all 4 bolts out relatively easily ( if I don't count the muscle spasms)
All in all, not as bad as I first thought.
Hope you have a Jacuzzi

The *&%#@ thing is out and gone. Picked up the new one this afternoon and it came bare metal. Working on priming and painting right now and hope to get it back in tomorrow. That 4th bolt is one SOB to get at. took me about 5 minutes just to find it. took of the brake light switch and moved(bent) the braket just to the side to get at the bolt. I'm sure this is going to be a real joy getting it back together. Gotta do it, C3X is to close now.
