Vette(s): Owned a Red 75 corvette between 1985-1993. Recently purchased a 76 buckskin Corvette.
Hello peoples,

I had to take the engine out of the vette because of a previous owners mistake with the installation of the harmonic balancer. |cussing|

Ever since I got the vette, the fill/cap location for the PS pump is right underneath the alternator bracket. Is everone elses like this? I seems you have to take the alternator braket off every time to check the level. I figure since the engine is out, this would be a good time to straighten everything out.

mine's the same, mine is a big block and not sure if that matters or what engine you have. You don't have to take the braket off but it is very tough to get the dipstick back in.

Most of them are real boogers to get to. I'd look for a funnel with a flexable tube. If the pump is in good condition it should rarely need "topping off". While you have everything out, make sure the pump is working properly. It could be something as simple as a bad or missing gasket on the filler cap. Make sure your lines are in good shape and not leaking too.

Makes you hold your tounge funny and say bad words, don't it? Nope, that's the right place. I use a transmission funnel.

Yep, it is in a bad place!
It isn't hard at all compared to the ordeal I just went through! I had the motor out for a swap and decided I would change all the power steering parts and control arm bushings. Four days later, the steering pump, control valve, ram and all hoses are new! What a PITA |cussing| . Saturday, bushings... |hammer|

you can use a differant length belt to adjust the filler location some. I went with a slightly longer to move the cap outward. makes things a litte easier. |thumb|
