Just recieved a rebuild kit for the power steering ram (1972). If anyone has any lesson's learned from there experiences it would be greatly appreciated.

Doesn't seem like it will be too big of a deal. That being said some of the easy job can turn out to be nightmares.

Ain't nuttin to it. It'll take longer to get it off than rebuild it, usually. Just take your time, and follow the directions I'm assuming came with the kit. It's just a few o-rings...should have no problem at all.

I agree, easy. I did my white79 without even taking it off the car. Pulled the shaft from the frame mount and used a pick to get the old seals out. Assembled in reverse order, maybe 20 minutes total time.

'68-'82 Corvettes do not have the usual power steering set-up, with the steering box itself being assisted. They use a "ram", or cylinder, for power assist. The cylinder is attached to the steering linkage, under the car. Adams' Apple2007-03-30 20:21:33

ram is also another name for a hydraulic piston and cylinder.

Corvettes and women are the same...You want to make love to them but they keep breaking down.

or in the aircraft business we call it an actuator. Big%20smile

Just make sure you lube the o-rings/seal real good, and make sure they don't get pinched upon assembly.
