I'm wondering if I caused irreparable damage to my ps pump that I am trying to rebuild.  the shaft is not turning and I believe it did before I started.  I have separated the pump from the housing and removed everything before the rotor and  thrust plate.  the vanes and dowel pins fell out of the rotor.  did I do something wrong?  if I did, can I fix it or should I jusy but a new one?

You "believe" it did?
Sounds like you might need to take it to a general repair shop, or, better yet, to your local 'Vette shop, if you have one. Without actually seeing it, its really hard to know what it is you "believe" you messed up! (no offense )
There are several things that could have been improperly installed. Hard to say what without eye-ballin it, myself. Maybe someone else can put a finger on it for ya.

If you're not concerned about keeping the original pump, you can just replace it, but its a crap-shoot on getting one that will actually fit correctly.

Joel, thanks for responding.  I haven't installed anything yet.  just took it apart.  the shaft was turning before I took it apart.  I don't know why it is not turning now.  don't want to put any more time into it if I can't repair it.

Sorry I can't help on this one. If you have the factory shop manual, it has a breakdown/exploded view that might help.

Well......you're welcome, but what did I do?
Did you happen to find the problem?

when I put it back together, the shaft turned.

sometimes it's just helpful to talk a problem thru with someone.
