Topic: powersteeringpump seal

i am rebuilding a powersteeringpump with a set of new o-seals but noticed something strange.
i screwed up my old pump so i got a used replacement pump from a corvette garage and when putting on the new o-seals ( replacement kit for 63-82) it looks like they are not thick enough to fill the groove
the strange thing is that on my old pump the new rings fits ok (same thickness as old rings ) but the replacement pump has deeper grooves and the old (only one old o-ring left) ring (point 3 on picture)is double as thick.
the oilpumps are basicly the same to my idea beside those deeper grooves.
cause the new rings are a little below surface ( point 1 & 2 on picture) i am afraid the seal kit i have is not the right one and the pump will start leaking or will the bolts squeeze the cover enough onto the rings?
since the replacement kit should fit all pumps from 63-82 i am wondering about the difference between the 2 pump's grooves ?
I has been a bit of time from my last one. But take a look at the surface that goes to the pump. I think you will find that some of them have a tube/component that goes inside the o-ring, rather than against it. If that's the case it will seal okay. If a flat part buts up against it, then you would have a leakage issue.
It could be that your rebuilt pump has been machined wrong.
thankz for the reply.. i already looks at the inner surface of the cover that goes onto the o-ring and that surface is flat.
the " new" pump is not a rebuild.. just a used (cover was screwed up so previous owner bought a new complete pump.. and i only needed the pump itself using my old cover.
there was left one o-ring in that " new" pump and that is twice as thick as in my old pump and in my rebuilt kit
so i assume there must be 2 kinds of o-rings ?.. thick and half-thick

already found out reading the instruction paper that came with the kit ...
there are 2 kits .. one with 1/16" and one with 1/8" thick square cut o-rings.
(edited) every corvette-part supplier i called had no clue about the difference in thickness till i went to a general chevy dealer and it looks like my pump is from a chevy van or something but i have found the right size rings.
