has anyone rebuilt the cyl useing one of the kitslike you can find in MAdirect or ecklers?

Yes, and it was not especially successful. It also leaked. I also purchased a rebuilt PS control valve, and it leaked. I then had my mechanic install yet another rebuilt control valve and after a few days it leaked.

I'm told the rebuilding kits are not well designed and that leaks are common. I'm ordering a new control valve (more $ but hopefully one one time) and will try that.
