Ladies and Germs,
After having a completely disastorous time with rebuilding my power steering system, I am now considering revisisting an area I had abandoned. The problem was me and my total lack of knowledge in this. I've heard talk of purchasing a power steering control vavlve that's been pre-set so you don't get the crazy wheel spin when you first start it up. If this is true where and how much? Also, one would assume you could pre set your own after rebuilding it? Maybe that's too much common sense being applied but I gotta ask. Before your tempted to suggest the rackNonion keep in mind I'm now a poor college student and my wife don't give a vey big allowance anymore.

Most valves are pretty close right out of the box. My first guess is that maybe you got the hoses switched on the valve. But if you are certain they are right, then jack up the front of the car, take the cap off the end of the valve and turn the nut an eighth turn either direction. Start the engine for a few seconds. If it gets better, do it some more. If it gets worse, go the other way until it stays centered.

Jason, did it come with instructions? Mine did and it was pretty easy, but what really help was a GM repair manual. The one the dealers used back then to repair cars. Just FYI Thanks

Changed mine last year...tried the jack it up thing... works ok, but not great because when the car is running at 70 you have greater pressure on the valve....get it close then leave the dust cover off and drive it with a wrench in your pocket stop....turn wheels to the right....TURN MOTOR OFF.... and adjust until it is no longer pulling right or left at various speeds. 2tonevette1981 2008-08-13 12:00:39
