Topic: Proper Height
in Forum: C3 Engines, Driveline and Handling
I am kind of thinking that the rear of my Vette is a little low. Does anyone know the proper height for the front and back and where to take those measurements?
Also, what is the proper tire? Black side walls, raised white letters, size etc.
Potential problem: Seems like when I make a sharp right turn, I hear some rubbing on the front passenger wheel. Does anyone else know of any problem like this and what the cause and solution is?

Your car could have been ordered with any of the sidewall types. The original size would have been GR-70-15, which translates to a P225-70-R15.
Here are the factory SPECS on ride heights, and where/how to measure.(ignore the line drawing of the car body...it's not relevant.)

Right now it has the Firestone GR-70-15 black side wall tires. Thanks for the specs. Like I said, I don't know what is causing the rubbing but sure will find out when I get home.

My '74 had the replacement tires, Firestone 725 on it when I bought it.(The driver's side front exploded on it when the car was still new, and it took part of the lower fender with it!) The spare, however, is still the original, factory installed 500.
You may have an alignment problem causing the tire(s) to rub, since you do have the correct sizes. It might be a good idea to get an alignment done, or at least checked, along with checking the ride height.
Of course, there's always a chance that the car has been damaged, either in a wreck, or running over something. Let's hope that's not the case!!

I remember those tires. I had a 75 Chrysler Cordoba with them on. The belts kept on slipping and I got a recall in the mail. I took the car in and they gave me a whole new set of tires for free. I am definately taking those tires off anyway and replacing them with something that is proper for the Vette of that year. I am trying to keep everything like it came from the factory. But I may find something that has raised white letters because I think it would look better and not take much away from the value of the car. I know it is important to keep as much as original as possible on the car to help keep it's value but I don't think tires are going to take way that much.
