Vette(s): My 1974 Vette sold last August 2014. I am still willing to show up to events and local gatherings if anything happening No new vette yet.

Hi.

I have a question perhaps someone might know the answer.  What were the original tires that came on the cars from the factory? i want to get the tires that were meant to be on my car in 1974. as some people put white walls on their c2s and c1s. what is the brand and style? Example Goodyear wranglers are usually on trucks, what were the ones on my 1974 vette back then? equivalent now? i need new rubber and i am restoring the car to 1974, figured the rubber would be cool to have original as well.

Thanks for your suggestions, opinions or ideas.

Jeremy

The standard tires were blackwall GR70-15. White stripe and raised white letter tires were optional in '74. That would roughly equate to a P225R70-15 to current standardized tire designation. I don't know what make tire was standard then, but was likely both Goodyear and Firestone depending on availablilty.

If you "really" want to get as "original as possible", Coker Tire makes period correct replacements. Not necessarily cheap, but they are good tires. You are probably better off getting a more modern tire - unless you're thinking about NCRS judging.

The "standard" tire would have been the Firestone 500 blackwall. The whitewall/RWL was optional. The Goodyear Polysteel Radial was also an optional tire, tho not always available.
