i was wondering about the difference in quality of available rag joints.
i have replaced mine with one that doesn't seems to have that metal reinforcement in it ( like the original) , just rubber with some nylon or something in it... when installing i already had the idea it might be tooo fexible.
now i did see on bair's cataloque:
" This is made like OEM, with the METAL Reinforcement. Watch out for the replacements that do not have the metal in them. "
anyone has experienced the difference between the 2 rag joints.. i mean can you notice while driving the car (the handling of the car ) or is it more the risk the one without metal rips apart easier?
thank you

Art, the "cheaper" rag-joints will work, just not for long.
If you have P/S, they'll survive longer than if you don't have P/S, but they are still not very good replacement parts. You gotta think about the safety factor here, too.
If you're in a bind, and have to have one, and that's the only one you can get, then that's different.
I would heartily recommend using one that does have the reinforcement. Just my 2c...

I put one of the inexpensive aftermarket ones in a few years ago before I knew better. I used the steel reinforcing off the old one and put it on the new one. It is holding up after a few thousand miles on it know. I am replacing it though this winter when I put the new motor in. I always worry about it and inspect it regularly through out the summer. Bair's has the correct one for $75.
