It has a transverse mounted leaf spring set-up. Depending on the suspension option, it will have either 7, or 9 leaves. Don't have a pic handy, but I'm sure someone does...

I have only one fiberglass leaf in the rear it was like that when my father gave it to me. Do I have to set the front cambrage when I change wheels? My steering feels like crap does not feel stable. I know I have 2 inch adapters on there and the cam is off. im taking the wheels off and getting different offset and taking off adapters. Hope that solves most of my problems. any suggestions on tight front end?

The fiberglass spring was installed by someone else...it didn't originally come that way. It's ok, tho...they do ride better.
As far as front end alignment, I'd have to say "Yes", get it aligned after you change the wheels. Too much neg camber(wheels leaning in at the top) can cause it to steer/handle goofy, as well as wear the tire quickly.
Does the 80 corvette have rear springs? can anyone have a pic if so?
Hi Frank, How have you been. It's good to see you posting again. The fiberglass spring your dad put in is an upgrade. A lot of us have changed over when it was time to replace the original. They even make a similar setup for the front to replace the coils, completely adjustable for stiffness and height, which is what they use on the newer vettes. And if you ever get tired of the old style steering, rack and pinion setups (though expensive) are one of the best improvements you can do. aceinthehole 2009-09-21 09:17:15

Funny you said that, I had the fiberglass bar in the front it was just too stiff felt like I was riding on no rubber so I had the springs put back on. im not drag racing just for crusing. guess I will do like adam said and get the cam adjusted guess it will be alright. maybe new air adjust shocks and shorter springs. With the new springs my car is setting up in the front now.

Yeah, there are a lot of different springs out there, you'd really have to talk to the right people to choose just the right spring to get the height you prefer. I know Mid America sells a set called grand touring that are said to lower the ride height about an inch. Just FYI, if you still have the glass spring that you took out, you might look at the center mounts to see where the bolt placement was. They usually have 4 mounting holes, the outer holes are the most stiff and the inner would make the suspension the softest. Out on the tips of the spring the long bolts will adjust the ride height. For our own education, please let us know what you decide to do and how it works out. Good luck
