Vette(s): 1969 Corvette Convertible. 350/350HP engine, power steering, 4 speed, burgundy exterior, black interior, black top, stainless steel brakes and optional hardtop. Rally wheels.
Okay, wise ones, I'm going to replace the brake system on my 69 Convertible. I'm replacing the calipers, pads, anything else that needs it. What brand(s) do you recommend? |confusing|

Just make sure that if you do a purchase/core exchange, that you trade GM Delco for GM Delco.
Your call.

Usual stuff, stainless steel, and new O ring technology.

Stay away from any components that are imported, especially ones that come from China. Rayloc (available at all NAPA stores)are pretty good OEM compatible parts. Be sure to check for rotor run-out. Nothing will kill a caliper faster then excessive run-out. You need to have less then .004" for a really good system.

I bought my stuff from Lone Star Caliper. They exibit at most of the shows on the east coast at least. Very nice people, good product. I had a caliper leak just out of warranty, they replaced it no charge, no questions asked. Look at your hard lines and hoses. If they are 34 years old , they may not be in the best condition.

Plan on replacing the hoses even if they look good. They fail from the inside. Joe

So as not to hijack this thread I am going to start a new post with a poll on silicone brake fluid.

Replaced all 4 of my calipers (turned in to 6 after all was said and done). The first set I bought were not delco/gm brand. After spending hours and hours on a internal leak in the brake system, I again replaced the back calipers (thus 6 total calipers). I replaced them with delco ss (stainless steel). Haven't had a problem since.

Harry, I had real good luck with Muskegon Brake. Rebuilt, stainless sleeved calipers w/lifetime warranty as long as you own the Vette. Four calipers w/pads for about $260 after they receive your core. Go to Muskegonbrake.com, they also have composite springs and other good pieces. Good-luck-Flandy
