What started out as a brake component replacement project, I am ending up replacing a lot of other parts too. (1981)

The steering column is out and I want to replace the bearings and other   worn out parts (plastic). Does anyone know of articles or forums dealing with this?

Any help will help ! Tanks

Hey Jeff,
How did you get from the brakes to the steering column?Shocked

Anyway, here is a good source for lots of stuff.
There is information on steering column. Not sure if it is what you are looking for.
Good luck.

Thanks Mr. DW
Well, it's like this, to remove the brake booster I thought it would be necessary to remove the brake and clutch pedal bracket, so, to remove that bracket, I lowered the steering column, the bracket still was not coming out easy, so I removed the steering column. With the column  removed the bracket came out easily. Now that the column is out, me being me, I couldn't put it  back without replacing the bearings and a paint job.
Hey, I admit it, I got a sickness!
Thanks for the link. I found it. Looks like a good resource for C3 steering issues. JPD1stVette2008-03-20 19:37:14

I have looked and find that most of the Vendors have the bearings.
Some have more parts listed than others though and the prices vary too.
See the link from dwright above for help with this.
There are also vendors out there to do the rebuild for you - for $$$.

You might also check to see if you have a bearing dealer or distributor.  Fleck, FAG and other bearing companies can take the bearing and measure it, then find a match to it.

Works great on old Allis-Chalmers tractor bearings.

I need to fix my column. When holding the steering wheel it is wobbly in all directions. Riks corvette sells a kit STE330 51.95, Zip SC-432 55.00. They seem to be the same kit. Here is a link; does this look like it should have the parts necessary any suggestions?
