BUBBA struck again- both rear bols which hold rear caliper to bracket where installed without washers and rounded off - got front half of caliper off, rotor off and can see stud end of bolt
how can I remove bolts??
Can I drill on stud (inner)side , not damaging the femmale threads, and colapse the stud inware-
No tourch available - - space is limited in rear of caliper for much else than a socket
Am aT a stand still - any advise would be appreciated
FRUSTRATION LEVEL high
Thanks

well I have had very good luck with my craftsman bolt extractor set.. nearly all my body mount bolts were rusted round..

i would pb blaster the hell out of it first but then slap a bolt extractor on it and it does wonders with rounded bolts..

the other thing you can do is cut the head off.. with a dremel or other such tool...

this works well with the dremel cable drive kit that allows you to put into odd places..

If I cut the head of the bolt off, is the remaining "stud " threader into the caliper or just the bracket. If The caliper will slide of "without the "head then I think I could use a pipe wrench in the remaining Stud
Thoughts
Thanks
Al

Similar situation but on my wifes 98 Malibu. But I was the Bubba who rounded it off!! Cut the head off with an air "pencil" grinder with 3inch cutting wheels. Actually more like grinded the head completely away to avoid cutting the caliper. Slid the rotor and caliper off together. Vicegrips removed the rest of the bolt. New bolts were like $14! each. Good luck.

Ben's dead on. Use the craftsman bolt out tool. I had some bolts on my differential to diff crossmember that were seized. Rounded off the heads and of course these bolts are down inside the member where you can't get anything in there to grind them off.

Tried the MM socket, pound it |hammer| over the rounded head techinic, that just got me hot under the collar and |cussing| off.

Thought my only options was going to be to cut the cross member appart to get to them. But Instead I thought I would take SEARS up on their challege with their bolt out tool.

Bolt out + 1/2" breaker bar, and POW, you should have hear the sound of that bolt break loose. Took about 5 minutes, that really made me |cussing| off because I had spend two days before that trying every redneck |withstupid| technique can think of to get those bolts out.

I now can say get the bolt out kit, I don't restore without it! |thumb|
