What would cause my 78SA front tires to rub the frame when I turn to the maximum?  I don’t have oversized tires or anything.

Did it just start rubbing ? Have you hit anything ?
I would check your suspension first before I do anything else.

I got the car in Jan. and it was doing it then.  It's not rubbing bad and I don't notice any major play, alignment or suspension problems.

My has always done this too. Not bad but enough to take the paint off the frame.

Your stops aren't missing are they?

Do you have aftermarket wheels. If so, it may be the backspacing.

I was wondering about the stops.  Where are they supposed to be?

What size tires do you have? The 60's ar more prone to rubbing than the 70's.

Take a look at THIS, and you'll see the steering stop on my control arm. It is on the left in the photo, just underneath the rubber "bumper". It is part of the lower control arm, and you can see mine has some wear on it.

dang...I need to clean this thing...

Thanks for the photo.  I wondered where they were.  I took a peek and I do have them on both sides.  Not sure what condition they are in but will check.
