1976 automatic L48 - I hear a "scraping noise" coming from the rear whenever I make a hard right turn (turing into a side street).
Any ideas on the suspected problem?

Spindle bearing, E-brakes, e-brake cable rubbing on rim...?

the same thing happens to my car (kind of).
if my car sits for a few days, i hear a slight scraping noise only when i first make the right turn out of my driveway.  sounds like it's coming from the left rear.   after that, it stops.

Ditto here, but it does mine intermitently. I have new trailing arms and emerg brake cables. Mine seems to do it more when making a hard right and a little bounce on a driveway... driving me crazy but I don't think it is anything to worry about  (yet)... can't see where anything is rubbing, but maybe like Joel said... the e-brake where I can't see it...

...and ditto here too ! First thing when cold, right
hand turn and off I go up the hill "scrape - scrape -
scrape - scrape" at exactly wheel rpm, comes from the
right rear. After I straighten up or do left turn it
goes away, and after a couple of miles seems to then
be gone altogether until the next cold start. Did e-brakes, saw nothing obvious while I was in there, fitted new shoes, first time out there it is again. Don't ya just hate it wen that happens. Posted it on C3VR about 6 months ago, and the consensus reply was ujoints on their way our on the half shaft. Have purchased new ujoints,
but that didn't fix it. Perhaps I should take them out of their boxes and instal them... I just haven't got round to it yet. Slack eh. Still, bought some wheel ramps today which was my next step towards doing it ! :-) Kiwi Chris

I'd be concerned about spindle bearings.  You don't want a wheel overtaking you.  Probably the emergency brake rubbing on the back of the hub until it moves back into the correct place (warmed up).  The problem is that it will make that noise when turning due to the spindle moving.
I'd be stripping the hubs down and rebuilding just to be safe.

If you have a lot of worn ebrake parts, they can break from oxidation and grind between the ebrake shoe and the inner drum surface. I've seen this a few times. LukesVette2006-09-23 16:36:05

Otay...here's another idea that has come to the surface of my 256 "processor"...Do youse guys(all of ya with the "same" sympthoms, do all of you guys happen to have...non-factory rims?? There is a stong possibility that your rims are actually rubbing on the brake calipers when you turn. This puts stress on the suspension/wheels, and, if the rims are a wee bit too close to the calipers to begin with, they will rub.
I had a set of Ansen Sprints on the '74 when I bought it. They were installed when the car was new, at the dealership. They DID rub when turning corners, sometimes. If you take the rims off, if they are rubbing, you will see marks/scrapes on the outter edge of the rim, on the inside. You will also see marks/scrapes on the calipers, normally at the very front or rear/top edge.
This seems to occur more with the rear than the front, but it can happen on either/both ends.
Jest anudder idear to toss around...
