I live in a very wet climate. We get 200 inches of rain a year. Needless to say, I don't get to drive it very often.

I thought about changing to the silicon fluid (DOT 5) when rebuilding the rear brake calipers this fall, but a friend recommended against it. While it doesn't absorb as much moisture as regular fluid (DOT 3), I was told it is a finer fluid and could leak around the rebuilt calipers. Best to go with the DOT 5 when you're going with all new brake parts because tolerances are closer and less likely to leak.
The DOT 5 also has a higher boiling point I'm told, which would be of help if you're doing some heavy duty braking (like racing).
And after my experience with caliper failure this year I'm going to be doing a full brake system flush as part of both the winter storage prep AND spring roll-it-out routines from now on.

Thanks Jim, I just rebuilt all my calipers so I will go with the regular fluid. I am going to replace the whole brake system next year and will probably use silicon then.

I did a complete brake changeover to st/stl. I did some research and found a product by Castoil called GT/LMA it's a dot 5 with the good charistics of silicon and regular fluid. Silicon is mainly for racing with a high boiling point because it doesn't absorb water but has to be hot for better stopping. Dot 3 & 4 works better in cooler conditions like normal driving. Vette or Corvette Fever Magazine did an article a few year ago on brake fluids but I can't find the issue, if I can I'll post it.
