AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Phew... spent the best part of two days TRYING to replace my power brake booster.

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a ROYAL pain in the buttocks. It looks easy enough, right? Just unplug the vacuum line, pull out the master cylinder. And then undo the four teeny tiny nuts that hold it to the firewall! Oh, and disconnect it from the pedal.

There are times when I feel a 3-year old can engineer a car better than the GM monkeys that put our cars together, and the brake booster is one of them! There is ABSOLUTELY NO access to those 4 stupid nuts! You have to take the stinkin dash off! I managed to just loosen the dash, and pull it forward, and then contort myself underneath the dash and get to them with a billion extensions and god knows what. ALL they had to do was to put a little panel at the top of the firewall that could get to those nuts, then I wouldn't be venting on here! Worse yet, I managed to get those four nuts off, but now the cursed thing won't come off the pedal...

boo hoo....

okay, now I can sleep, thanks!

I have on occassion thought about replacing my stock booster with a chrome plated one just for "dressup". Thanks for the post, you made up my mind not to do it !

Do NOT do it unless you absolutely have to. It took me close to three days of back-bending, knuckle scratching, PB-Blaster in my eye fun!

But it should be easy if you have the interior out |grin|

But it sure solved my brake problems, and now I feel like I can almost stop on a dime. Just need to bleed and replace the oil-soaked brake pads...

A year or two from now, this will be a ribbon on your C3 badge of honor. It's a PITA at the time, but in the end, its all good!!Thumbs Up
