Just lowered my spare tire on my 78 for the first time and to my suprise, I think it is the original. It is a Goodyear tire that says spare only tire. It says polyspare. Needles to say it has dry rot cracks. The question is there any reason to save this tire when I have a new one put on the wheel?

I'm sure they will say yes. Or to put it on e-bay for sale to a "Showing" car.
It was recomended I keep my original 1980 14K Goodyear Eagles that were cracked. So I did as I was told.
Ya just never know what is around the corner......
[QUOTE=Willis76]If you have the room, hang on to it. Heck, why not put it on the wall and turn it into a clock?

I got my new "Tire Rack" catalog today and they have a nice storage cover jacket for a stack of tires and singles also. Nice way to keep the dust and sunlight off your stored tires. Guna order one to put new Stored Eagles in.
I checked my '78 and it says the same thing. don't think it's ever been used. I just added a little fresh Maine air to the St. Louis air.

Vette(s): 1972 conv, 4-speed, 350, 200hp, numbers match, rally wheels, war bonnett yellow w/white top. good condition, nice driver.
I have a couple also. One has been used, and has a plug in it, one is original and not used. Belted, hard, and on grubby wheels. F and G 70s. I bought another wheel and put a radial on it for spare.
The spare in "The Toy" is a well worn Goodyear F-70. I doubt it is the original spare looking at it and it probably doesn't have any value based on its condition. I should really replace it before taking the car very far from home again.
The original tires were still on "The Beast" when we purchased it in the fall of '06. There were only 7,500 miles on them, they still had a lot of the 'new needles' on them, but they all were checked and cracked so were an accident waiting to happen. All four were replaced and the originals are bagged and stored away in the cellar incase the next caretaker of the car wants them. If not they'll go on 'FleaBay' so a NCRS type can use them. I do need to drop the spare and check it out (good point!
). It should be replaced before the next long road trip as I'm sure it is also the original (which I'll bag and store with the others).
