hi all,
i bought a front end set that was already done (new bushings, ect..)to put on my beast.
i finally put them on yesterday and the bushings on the upper and lower A-arms squeak like crazy !!!

is there a way to quiet them down without too much trouble???

i hope it will go away but i want to be prepared if it won't !
thanks.

You can take the end bolt and the large washers off the end of the cross shafts and spray WD-40 in them, then drive around for a while ,it should quiet them down,I always put a little grease on them when I put them together

hey ron,
thanks for the info.
i'm sure that the person that rebuilt the arms did not put any grease on them. i'll do as you suggested tonite and work it in.
it'll be a while before i'm driving mine (check out my website under the pics of my car).
hey,i just noticed your only a few hours from me.
if your ever up my way stop by.

Are they rubber or polyureathane? The poly ones will squeak, they should have used a silicon grease on them at installation. I have them and I used the grease they supplied with them, they only squeak when cold.

dave,
i'm guessing they are poly, only because of the squeaking.
i bought the arms from a guy that was parting out a vette.
he was not the one that rebuilt it. so i'm sure he doesnt know.
if grease was used, its no good now !

Ya, the poly bushings have a tendency to skweek...the sillycone grease MUST be used to quiet them down.
However, if yours are the rubber, original style bushings, don't go spraying anything like WD40 directly on the rubber part of the bushing(sorry Ron...no disrespect
). The petroleum base of the lubricant will break down the rubber, and the bushings will fail sooner. It swells the rubber, and makes it "skwishy"(hi-tech term). You can spray inside of the steel sleeves, where they fit around the control arm shaft, tho.
Rubber bushings normally don't make noise until they are worn/dried out, anyway, so you prolly do have the urethane bushings. Greasing them will solve that, but they really need to be dis-assembled to do it...
