Topic: Steeroids
in Forum: C3 Engines, Driveline and Handling

Hello all,
Considering an upgrade to steeroids over the winter. I know a while back a few members went to a dealer for a group discount. Can anyone share any success or horror stories based on the product, fit, installation?
Also, any suggestions who to go to for the kit? I know theres very little flexibility between Mid America and any other dealers that I've seen selling the kit.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all and say a prayer for a quiet one for our brothers and sisters overseas.
Thanks

Luke, I haven't put the steeroids kit on my vette, but it is on the list. I have heard a lot of good things about it. Don't think I've heard any negatives yet. Regarding who to order it from, I know that VBP and Speed Direct also carry it. I've dealt with each of them before for other parts and can only say good things about both of them. Not sure if Van Steel carries it or not, but they are also another vendor that I've only heard good things about. Haven't dealt with them yet, but hopefully will this winter/spring when I get some new suspension parts and offset trailing arms!

If there's enough interest, I may campaign for a group order as the last group got nearly a $300 discount per unit.
Any takers? I'll take care of all the coordination.

Hey Luke ,
I would be interested.
$300.00 on a 1200.00 kit is significant.
Bob

OK Bob. I will contact a few places to see where we can get the best deal. I've already identified through some quick research that we can get down to $1170 (list) with Volunteer Vette from the $1249 list that most other dealers are offering.
Any other takers?

With the kit installed, the car drives like a go cart. The steering response is immediate. You will have to move the lower portion of the steering column towards the middle of the car as much as you can. I have about 600 miles on mine and am glad I did the install.
I got mine from an individual that gave up on his project vette.

Thanks for the info Eddie. You're vert is awesone!
I noticed that there is a manual version as well as the power version. Has anyone actaully installed the manual kit?
Thanks

[QUOTE=Eddie 70]I have the Steeroids kit on my car. The hardest part for me to get setup was the middle bearing in the linkage from the column to the rack itself. There will be a little custom fitting when you get the kit just because of the way our frames welds are made. Some of the weld on my frame was in the way so instead of removing weld, I just altered the hole in the bracket about 1/16 or so. Very minor.

I am in the process of installing them on my 73.
Very nice kit, comes with everything. High quality.
There was a similar minor alterations I had to do on my install also. Not any welds, but the motor mount was just too close for comfort where the lower U-joint connects to the rack. When turning the steering wheel the set screws cleared the motor mount by too small a margin.
I trimmed / shaved about .25" by 1.25" strip off the edge of the mount. Easy work for a grinder followed by a couple squirts of paint over the now bare metal. I probably didn't have to do anything and it would have worked fine, just me being anal, but I'm happier now.
The most time consuming part for me was getting everything centered. A relatively easy thing to do, but you have to bolt everything in place to test. To change, you have to undo enough to slide the steering column u-joint off, adjust it a couple teeth, and then reassemble everything. Test, repeat.
I should have mine completed this weekend. Have to get in the right mindset to fire up the kerosene (jet engine) heater in the garage and go do it. Too cold today, a heat wave into the mid 40's tomorrow and I'll finish 'er up.
I'll let you know how the test drive goes.

More great info and feedback!
We have 2 takers so far and I will be contacting 4 vendors including the direct distributor to see who will give us the best deal based on # orders. I'll send out reminders through the middle of next week and then I will work next Thurs or Fri to get the pricing done.
Good opportunity to get a quality system and save some bucks!
