How can I correct a stripped grease fitting.  It is the one on the upper A Frame ball joint.  The internal threads are gone.  Someone tighted it too much and stripped the threads.  Can I drill out the hole and use a thread tap to the next larger size?  Is there enough depth to do this?  Can I get a grease fitting the next larger thread size and make this work?  Thanks for your Help...steve

I don't think I would drill it. Might be a little tough to get the shrapnel out! I think they do make a grease zerk that is oversized, self tapping, tho. Check with your local NAPA, or maybe AutoZone. Otherwise, it might be ball-joint replacement time!

Got it fixed.

Could not find a oversized self taping zerk.  They do make a zerk that you drive in.  They have shoulder like barbs where the threads would be.  But did not buy.

But what some one told me to do was to take a punch and pean around the hole and it worked.  Held the zerk real tight.  Tight enough for me to grease the ball joint too.

If anyone ever hears of an oversize zerk, let me know......steve

Thanks

I'd just be replacing the ball joint.  You'll have less problems in the long run.
