Topic: Strut Rod Removal
in Forum: C3 Engines, Driveline and Handling

Well, it's my fourth day of a relaxing Memorial Day weekend, which I decided to use to put in my new adjustable strut rods. Well, after removing the castle nut, I attempted to thread on the shock removal tool I purchased from Mid America. It appears the ID of this tool is about 1 MM smaller than the castle nut and will not go on the shock mount..
I then called Mid America and their tech seemed mystified. He's currently researching. Any similar experiences or remedies from the field? I'd prefer not to destroy the shock mounts for the simple reason that I'm assuming if they get out of shape from pounding on them directly, they won't make it though the ears coming down from the TA assembly.
Any guesses or remidies from the field??
Once again, thanks as usual.

Yeah, I was gonna say the same thing. If they are not rusted you should be able to do it with a rubber mallot. I just did my t-arms over the weekend, and two hits and it came right out.

Well that was a long tomorrow night!
Anyway, unbolted the strut rods from the center bracket - No Problem!! After heat and a generous dose of PB blaster and a 4 pount hammer, not a budge!!
2 whiz wheel and 4 sawzall blades later, one side is done. The sleeve inside the rubber bushing welded itself with oxidation to the scock mount.
Keep your fingers crossed for the drivers side!!
