This past Sat. afternoon, after cleaning up interior pcs in preperation for a Sunday dye job,I assembled my second trailing arm.A while back I was going to do the swap em in thing and get a pr. of freshly rebuilt arms. Then a buddy of mine talked me into doing it myself. So I bought new e brake shoes, races and bearings.I glass beaded all parts, painted averything semi gloss and re assembled. The first one took me 3 take aparts and re do's,but came out great.Sat. only took me an hour to re assemble the second one.I had more trouble(never having done one) with the e brake then I did with the spindle.Pc of cake...don't be afraid to take on this deal, just be sure you have plenty of books and pictures on hand.

Mike  ... what tools were the "Must Haves" to complete the job?  ie spindle press,  spindle knocker,  set-up tool, etc.   I need to do it on two of mine .

A spindle knocker for sure! My first attempt I used my 30 ton press and bent the trailing arm,bad deal. Then I double nutted the spindle and boogered the threads in the same press. Then I started asking questions. The spindle knocker screws all the way down on the spindle so the threads don't take the pounding, the shoulder at bottom of threads does. With a couple of heavy hits from a 5# hammer, the spindle pops out without damage to anything. After putting all back together I used a dial indicator and gave the spindle 3/1000 of play.So thats the 2 main tools.I have a bead blast cabinet, but you could do it with wire bruhes, etc, after cleaning all with laq. wash or mineral spirits.Take one apart ,take digitals, that way you can use the other for reference and visa/versa.I learned on the second one to assemble all the e brake pcs to the dust shield, rather than assembling the e brake pcs after the dust shield was bolted to the t/arm.Use 4 new lock washers and nuts when re-assembling spindle support to t/arm.When you remove arm from car isolate the shims that are in the frame rail so they go back in the same way.

how did you hold the t=arm/ spindle su[pport while hitting it with hammer as to not damage any parts?

I got to install the drivers side t/arm last night, the bolt was a small pita but the whole job only took an hour.I'll get this car on it's wheels this weekend after being on a roll around dolly for two years.Once its on the ground I can take it to my freinds shop and paint it.
