Hey,

I'm in need of new tires for the White Witch sometime soon. She currently has Goodyear Radial T/A 245 60 15 's on her and they are showing serious signs of dry rot and since I do Highway driving a lot i figured it would be best not to drive tooo much on bad tires. I have a couple questions...Aren't the front and rear tires supposed to be different sizes on a 75 Stingray? or is 245 the standard size for all four? What tire would you reccomend replacing them with? I do a lot of distance driving at 55-80mph and then the commuter crawl happens too(unfourtunately). I'd like tires with some grip I don't race and I know the Vette wasn't meant for cornering, but I'd like to have as little slip as possible and still be able to run for a while on the tires....lemme know what you think.

Hey Scott,
I'm not sure on the '75 tire size or if they were supposed to be the same size for all four. I thought they were the same on mine. Next time I'm out I'll check my sticker on my door. As far as new tires go I recommend Goodyear GT II's. Mine are 255/60/15 and they are great tires. They grip well. I cruise well and the feel good and they help my vette corner nicely.

I have read in a couple of threads about Vettes not cornering well. I think that my Vette corners better than any other vehicle except motorcyles that I have ever driven. It just seems to hug every curve like glue. |smile|

Scot,
Be careful with going with the 255's. I like many other mid year owner have had trouble with them rubbing the fenders when turning on rough roads. I went with the 245's as you have, but I am not sure who, if anyone still makes that size! The other solution may be to go with a 70 series tire.

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
Scot,

On my other e-mail, I told you the stock size for my car, which is P225/70R15. The optional size was listed as P255/60R15. All 4 were the same size. Of course mine is a 79, so they may be different. By the c3vr spec sheet, they are listed a GR70-15. All 4 the same size. I'll look at another spec sheet, and post it.

Those sizes were out of the specification manual chevrolet sent me. Idavette pages calls for 225/70R15, and optional 225/60R15. I don't think this is right. I think the chevrolet pages are correct. I'm not positive though... All 4 should be the same size ... |thumb| |smile| |smile|

I really like the Good Year Eagle GTII tires, but I don't know if they are still available.

Most tires dealers have the specs on the original tire size and the optional sizes. Also, you can check out http://www.tirerack.com/index.jsp for size and prices. Since I have a custom body I had to go with 235-70 15s. Anything bigger rubbed the fender well in the front when turning and hitting a bump. I got the best deal at my local Costco. They mounted and balance them and actually used a torque wrench to tighten the lugs. (the first time I have ever seen it done the right way).

Hey, that's a beautiful car. I'd love to see more pics of it and your body kit. Got a website?

Got Dunlop GT Qualifiers, the ride better than the old ones but I've not really tested them...NO slip gunnin' it around a corner like I expected there would be.. off to a good start...time to fix those headlights!!
