The compairsons are easily found on the "Tire Rack" site.  This is not the only place I checked, but all the information I found pointed to the same results.  It's an easy place to look at the info.

Yes, in 78 they actually shaved the back of the front fender opening about 1/2 inch.  When they first came into the dealership, we thought we had a real mfg screwup on our hands, but then we found out the truth.  No problem.

I'll be getting a new set here shortly also. The Dunlaps are pretty old and they have zero traction on wet pavement. I've got 255/60/15's on there now and get a little rub when I go to lock but it's never been an issue so the Firestone Indy's will be the same size. Tire rack has them on special for $70 each so for the heck of it I stopped at NTS locally for a price and was quoted $106 each plus another $10 for mount and balance. I mentioned the Tire Rack price and with no hesitation he met it. I'm going with the Indy's as their overall rating was much higher (traction wise) than the BFG's but I'm still debating which side to put out, white letters or blackwall. I'm really not sold on their letter scheme.

Vette(s): 1981 Blue Ice Met. w/pearl ghost flames TKO500 5speed. LS1 Swap 3.45 Dana 44.

BFG T/A's 255's on the '81. Great tire, even in the wet.

Had Goodyear Eagle GT II's. Worst tire I ever had. Almost piled the vette up going around a curve. Road was wet and I was driving like an old lady. Had them removed the next day.

I also went with the BFG Radial T/A. When I bought the car it had BFG Comp T/A's  235/60 and the rubbed the frame. Went with the 225x70 to keep the original look. Also BFG is one of the few tire makers that still has the solid lettering, most others have gone to outline lettering.

Wow! I checked out the Tire Rack site and the test results page for 255/60/15 tires. The Firestones are rated much higher than any other tire in this size. Thanks for the great info and all of your responses.
I did a lot of research, and look at many cars over many years.  I agree the BFGs are a great tire, there is no way you can go wrong.  But due to the research I bought the Firestone Indy 500s.  I haven't driven it much as of yet, but so far I like them quite well.
i have to agree with kstyer- i am running with indy 500's after a long, painful research. i compared alot of tires, and even stacked up against the bfg t/a's, overall the indys had the best customer ratings, and had better performance. i got them for about $55 per tire last summer. i love they way they look too!

Vette(s): 1981 Frost Beige Coupe... all original.. My SECOND Love...

I just swapped from the Goodyear Eagle GTII tires to Firestone Indy 500s and they may just be the nicest tire I've ever used.  The most impressive change is that there was a serious reduction in road noise.  I was astounded.
