I also just switched to the Firestone Indy 500's yesterday. I like the way they handle and the look of the white letters (I was not sure on how they would look but am very happy with it)

I got the 225/70/15's, I didn't want any rub problems and also did not want a wider tire for stone spray back on the rear quarters.

While I'm still sold and going with the "Indys", I'm confused over using the 225/70 size as the specs state maximum rim size is 7.5. Using these on 8 inch rims is Ok? I wouldn't mind losing an inch of width to tuck them in a little better but not at the risk of safety.

They will fit an 8" rim without a problem. I have P215/70-15's on my '69 and they went on fine.

I agree with Gunslinger, they fit fine.

You will be happy with the tire.
OK, I know that this is a topic of great debate and brand loyalty, but I'm asking for input. It's time for a new set of tires for my '82. I really hate to replace tires with almost new tread on them, but they are going on 15 years old. (I really should drive this car more.) The last time I put tires on, I just replaced them with the same 255/60/15 Goodyear Eagles. So, what luck have you all had with tires on the vette? Thanks
I know the voices aren't real, but they have some pretty cool ideas...

I put Pirelli Scorpion Zero 255/60/15's on my '81 last year and love them. Excellent handling and not alot of noise. Only come in blackwall, though - no raised white letters.

I am not sure why everyone goes with 255/60.

I tried to stay closer to the original size on my 1971. Last time I changed tires, I went with 235/70R15. They rubbed on the front. I kept this size on the rear but stepped back to 225/70 on the front.

Also, I must be the only one to drive on four PV41 from Firestone. This is a tire specially made for the police with the appropriate Speed rating for the car. I have been very happy with this choice.

Christian

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!

The 225/60-15 is the same outer diameter as the original F 70-15.  Almost exact.  The 225/70-15 are actually a little larger around.

I know my vette came with 255/60/r15 from the factory. It was a popular option for the later year C-3's.
